Virtual & Online Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Addiction Treatment

Evidence-based addiction care — delivered to your home, around your schedule, without putting your life on hold.

Getting help for addiction shouldn’t mean choosing between your health and your livelihood. But for many, it can feel that way when juggling a demanding job, raising kids, or managing responsibilities that won’t wait.

Whatever brought you here, one thing is clear: you need treatment that works with your life, not against it.

Recovery Centers of America’s Online IOP brings the same clinical depth as our nationally recognized treatment centers directly to you — through secure video sessions you can attend from your home, your office, or anywhere you have privacy and a reliable internet connection.

How Does Virtual IOP Work?

Virtual IOP is structured, intensive treatment. You’ll receive the same level of care you would receive as if you are stepping into one of our outpatient centers. Each group therapy, individual session, and skill-building workshop is grounded in evidence-based addiction treatment:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): identifying and changing the thought patterns that drive addiction
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): building emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills
  • Trauma-informed care: addressing the underlying experiences that often fuel addiction
  • Dual diagnosis treatment: if appropriate, we’ll assess and treat co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, or PTSD
  • 12-step programming: connecting you with proven peer support frameworks

Sessions run on encrypted, HIPAA-compliant video platforms. You choose where you participate. Your care stays completely confidential.

Is Virtual IOP the Right Level of Care?

This program requires genuine engagement. That means consistent attendance, active participation, and honest effort between sessions. It may be the right fit if:

  • You’ve completed a residential or medical detox program and need structured support to maintain your progress
  • Your work schedule, caregiving responsibilities, or distance from a treatment center make in-person care difficult
  • You’re recognizing a growing problem with alcohol or drugs and want to address it before it escalates
  • You value privacy and feel you’d engage more openly in a space you control
  • You live in a state where RCA’s Virtual IOP is available (see below)

We meet patients where they are, providing a full continuum of care including medically-monitored detox, inpatient, and outpatient services. What sets us apart is our commitment to serving as many patients as possible with personalized treatment pathways, a focus on measurable outcomes, and a patient-centric delivery every step of the way.

Our team will help you figure out which level of care is right for you. Call us 24/7 at 1.800.RECOVERY to talk through your options.

Frequently Asked Questions about Virtual IOP

What is a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP)?

A virtual IOP is a structured addiction treatment program delivered through secure video technology. It typically includes 9 to 15 hours of weekly therapy, combining group sessions, individual counseling, and skill-building workshopswithout requiring you to attend a physical facility.

The clinical content and intensity are equivalent. The key difference is format: virtual IOP is delivered via encrypted video, allowing you to participate from home. Research supports telehealth IOP as equally effective to in-person care for appropriate candidates.

Most major commercial insurance plans cover intensive outpatient treatment, including virtual delivery. RCA is in-network with over 80 insurance providers. Coverage varies by plan; therefore, our team is available 24/7 to verify your benefits.

Virtual IOP is appropriate for adults who are medically stable, do not require 24-hour supervision, and are motivated to engage in structured care. It’s commonly used as a step-down from residential treatment or as a primary level of care for those with moderate addiction severity.

You need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera.

Duration varies person to person and based on individual clinical needs. Your treatment team will develop a plan specific to your situation.
