Recovery Centers of America at St. Charles and CEO Karen Wolownik Albert were featured in this article on National Recovery Month in the Chicago Daily Herald.
National Recovery Month, observed every September promotes awareness and evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders. Says Wolownik Albert, “We want to meet people where they are. Sometimes when we don’t hear from people (and) that’s good news because they don’t need our services again. Sometimes when we don’t hear from people, it’s the worst news. Maybe they have had an overdose or accident or something terrible has happened. But we hope people seek treatment again if needed. We need to treat addiction like the chronic disease that it is, similar to heart disease or diabetes or obesity. These are all chronic conditions.”
