Mental Health Conditions Rarely Improve on Their Own
Massachusetts has one of the strongest healthcare systems in the country, yet too many people still go without mental health care. According to NAMI, 1.16 million adults in Massachusetts have a mental health condition, which is more than 6 times the population of Worcester. Of the 363,000 adults who didn’t get the care they needed, nearly one-third said cost stood in the way.
Left untreated, symptoms tend to deepen. Sleep suffers, work slips, and isolation grows. Structured outpatient care interrupts that slide. At RCA Outpatient Services in Worcester, you’ll gain:
- Practical skills to calm symptoms in the moment
- Routine therapy that builds momentum
- A psychiatric team watching how your medications are working
- Support for your family and loved ones so they understand how to help
- A written plan for life after treatment
- People beside you who get it
Whether this is the first time you’ve asked for help or you’ve been managing symptoms for years, our team of psychiatric providers, therapists, and clinicians meet you where you are and help you get somewhere better.

Real stories from patients and families reflect the care, compassion, and support people experience across Recovery Centers of America.
“I have been in and out of mental health facilities since I was 13. Being at RCA helped me discover who I truly am and what I am capable of. Meeting the people and staff here made me feel less alone and showed me that I could adapt to life on life’s terms. Coming home, I felt more equipped to interact with my family in healthier ways than I ever could before. The connections I’ve made through Alumni have helped me keep my recovery and mental health at the forefront of my mind. Taking care of our mental health is so important because it allows us to face challenges, build stronger relationships, and live a more fulfilling life. Today, I know I have a strong support system I can rely on.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a substance use disorder to receive treatment at RCA outpatient services?
No. Our Worcester program accepts adults whose primary diagnosis is a mental health condition, with no substance use disorder required. We also treat substance use and co-occurring disorders, so if both apply to you, your care plan addresses them together.
What’s the difference between Day Treatment and Extended Day Treatment?
Extended Day Treatment provides 6 hours of programming, 5 days a week, offering the most structure available outside a hospital or residential treatment. Day Treatment offers at least 3 hours a day, 3 to 5 days a week, with evening options for people balancing work or family commitments with recovery.
Can I attend treatment virtually?
Yes. We offer HIPAA-compliant virtual sessions as well as hybrid schedules that combine in-person and online programming, so distance or transportation never has to keep you from care.
How long does outpatient mental health treatment last?
Length of treatment depends on your clinical needs and progress. Many patients move from Extended Day Treatment to Day Treatment as symptoms stabilize, stepping down gradually rather than stopping all at once.
