RCA Radio Hour Explores the Hard Realities of Substance Use Disorder

Recovery Centers of America

Authored by Recovery Centers of America

On the first Tuesday of every month, Tara Rivera, treatment advocate for Recovery Centers of America, representing our Massachusetts facilities RCA at Danvers and RCA at Westminster, co-hosts the Recovery Centers of America Radio Hour on Boston’s WKPZ the K-Zone 105.3FM and 1280AM.

In the first part of the conversation, Rivera observed that many people who suffer from substance use disorder (SUD) also struggle with unresolved trauma they need to work through as well, stressing the importance of treating both addiction and trauma.

Later Michael Gross, Primary Therapist at RCA at Danvers, joined the discussion. Gross relayed how, while he was still in training at Boston University, he would pass along a street known colloquially as the “methadone mile” and how this helped set him on the path of helping those in the grip of SUD.

As he related, “My natural inclination is to help whenever I see anything—whether it’s a behavioral health crisis or whether it’s someone overdosing.”
