Why Adult Siblings Drift Apart | RCA in Parade

Parade recently asked four psychologists what most often causes adult siblings to drift apart, and all of them pointed to the same answer: passive drift. Passive drift is the slow loss of closeness that happens as busy lives, distance, and shifting priorities gradually pull people apart. Among the experts featured was Dr. Peter Vernig, Vice President of Mental Health Services at Recovery Centers of America. He noted that reconnecting works best when you approach a sibling with the same curiosity that you’d bring to a new friend rather than trying to recreate the relationship you had as children.
