Recovery Centers of America at Monroeville Celebrates Five Years of Lifesaving Addiction Treatment in Western Pennsylvania

More than 4,000 patients supported on their path to recovery

MONROEVILLE, Pa. – Today, Recovery Centers of America (RCA) at Monroeville marks five years of providing evidence-based addiction treatment and compassionate care to individuals and families across Western Pennsylvania.

Since opening its doors in February 2021, RCA at Monroeville has grown into a 138-bed substance use disorder (SUD) treatment center, with 28 of those beds now dedicated to Sober Living, supporting step-down care and long-term stability for patients transitioning out of residential treatment. Following the opening, in March 2021, the center launched outpatient services, establishing a full continuum of care from medically-monitored detox and residential treatment through outpatient programming and aftercare.

“Five years ago, we set out to build a recovery community. Since opening our doors, RCA at Monroeville has served as a powerful force for stable recovery offering quality addiction treatment to the Greater Pittsburgh community,” said David Blenk, CEO at RCA at Monroeville. “Our staff is focused on continuity, accountability, and relapse prevention, and we’re seeing the power of a true continuum in action. Recovery doesn’t end at discharge. It requires structure, accountability, family involvement, and long-term support. Patients can expect that level of care here at Recovery Centers of America at Monroeville.”

RCA at Monroeville puts a strong emphasis on family involvement and sustained engagement after discharge. A supportive family system is crucial to any recovery journey, and over the last 3 years, nearly 400 families have participated in RCA at Monroeville’s virtual family education webinars. Additionally, approximately 27% of all patients transition directly from residential to outpatient treatment.

Beyond clinical services, RCA at Monroeville has prioritized alumni engagement and community integration as core pillars of its mission. The robust alumni program includes annual and seasonal initiatives such as a Secret Santa toy drive for patients’ children, “Lawn Chair Olympics” for the Fourth of July, Trunk or Treat events, and holiday caroling at a local assisted living community. These efforts are designed to strengthen the sober community and reduce stigma around addiction recovery.

The alumni program also looks to support the community through partnerships that extend far beyond treatment. Through a partnership with Pressing On Pittsburgh, a nonprofit serving families of pediatric organ transplant patients, RCA assembled 200 care packages for families, provided meals for staff at a local children’s hospital, and hosted on-site family support activities for hospitalized children.

“Recovery doesn’t end when someone completes treatment; in many ways, that’s when the real work begins,” said Patrick Yarboro, Alumni Coordinator at RCA at Monroeville. “We’ve developed an alumni program focused on connection, purpose, and belonging. Sustained recovery is built through connection, and we’re helping them reconnect with their communities in meaningful ways.”

The center’s commitment to clinical quality has also earned national recognition, having been named to Newsweek’s America’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers list in both 2024 and 2025. RCA at Monroeville was also honored as CCL Hospitality Group’s National Account of the Year in 2025.

The RCA team is made up of nearly 100 team members, half of whom have been with the organization for more than three years – an uncommon level of stability in the behavioral health field. Looking ahead, RCA at Monroeville remains focused on expanding its continuum of care, strengthening family engagement, and ensuring that recovery is treated as a sustained, supported journey.
