On Saturday, February 4, 2021, John Demasi, host of South Jersey radio show Talk With A Purpose, hosted Dawn Belamarich, CEO of RCA at Lighthouse, located in Mays Landing, as part of his ongoing series Fighting the Opioid Epidemic.
In a wide-ranging conversation, covering the promise of recovery to the challenges of the pandemic, a particular focus was RCA’s new WorkFlex service, which enables patients to continue fulfilling employment or education responsibilities during their time at the inpatient rehab facility.
During the ongoing pandemic, isolation and a lack of structure have compounded the struggles of addiction, leading to increases in relapse at the same as the infrastructure for recovery has been reduced.
In an effort “to remove the barriers to recovery one by one,” as Demasi put it, RCA at Lighthouse has instituted their WorkFlex program, which allows pre-approved participants to work or continue school for up to three hours a day, as part of their holistic approach to treatment.
And the early results are in. As Belamarich notes, WorkFlex has not only made getting help for addiction “common practice,” it has also seen “a significant improvement in how employers view treatment.”
