Recovery Centers of America to Launch Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program for First Responders

The New Program is the Only Program of its Kind in Indiana and Is Supported by the Indianapolis First Responder Council

INDIANAPOLIS April 15, 2021Recovery Centers of America (RCA) , a substance use disorder treatment center in Indianapolis, is launching the “RESCU Program,” the only addiction treatment program designed specifically for first responders in Indiana. The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on everyone, driving many people to addiction, relapse, and mental health issues. The pandemic has been especially difficult for our first responders, who we have heavily leaned on during this time. The RESCU Program will provide specialized therapy to help first responders overcome addiction to drugs and alcohol.

The RESCU Program at RCA caters to the specific needs of first responders who have unique challenges due to the nature of their work. At RCA, first responders will be part of a small community of fellow first responders who are experiencing similar challenges. Treatment for first responders includes private group therapy sessions, peer support groups, and individualized treatment, led by staff with personal experience in the first responder profession.

Support and encouragement to seek treatment is important. That is why the RCA RESCU advisory board was created utilizing the expertise of leaders in Indiana’s first responder’s community. The advisory board includes organizations such as the Indiana Sheriff’s association, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Department of Corrections, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and many others. The advisory board’s first meeting was April 21, 2021 from 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Executive Director of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association Steve Luce is one of many community leaders who joined the RCA RESCU advisory board. “The ISA sees tremendous value in making sure our First Responder Families have the needed resources to address the issues that may occur during a career of being a First Responder. These individuals sacrifice so much to help and protect their communities and are exposed to many traumatic incidents that can be long lasting to an individual and their families.”
