Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a specialized Young Women’s Program important?

Young women suffering from substance use disorder face problems specific to their gender and age. Most young women deal with low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and other issues. They learn differently than men. They experience different types of trauma than men and must be addressed differently in treatment. Our single-gender programs, therapies, and treatment address the unique problems of a young woman and apply proven-effective practices to successfully treat those challenges.

How do you treat trauma?

Women experience trauma differently than men. Therefore, their needs are approached differently in treatment. Our programs identify the different types and patterns of trauma common to young women. We have developed proven-effective practices to successfully address those traumas.

How else do you help a young woman with substance use disorder?

We provide Life Skills that young women may have lost through their addiction. We help them develop the critical tools and abilities that will help restore the confidence they need to start a meaningful life in recovery. Some of the classes and workshops are Healthy Cooking/Nutrition. Credit Restoration, Job Interviewing, Resume Writing and more.

What is the advantage of singular-gender programs and therapy?

A single-gender program provides a physically and emotionally safe environment without distraction, tension, or other complications that could impede progress in mixed-gender treatment groups. Women-only meetings give young women a higher level of confidence and engagement to share openly and without fear to express themselves.

Are there other needs for a young woman in treatment?

We have identified specific needs of young women with substance use disorder and have developed gender-specific therapies that specifically address these issues and help build a life of meaningful and sustained recovery.
