What Your Family Can Expect
Introduction
Understanding a Loved One's Recovery Journey
Addiction is a chronic disease that requires ongoing management and support. It may not be a linear path, and there may be setbacks along the way. However, the continuum of care and support available at Recovery Centers of America can help your loved one achieve lasting recovery.
What to Expect Before Treatment
You play an essential role in your loved one’s recovery journey even before they enter treatment. Some families choose to use our intervention services to help a family member decide to seek treatment, while others reach out for guidance on how to support their loved one during the admissions process. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
Some steps you can take to prepare for a family member’s stay at an RCA treatment center include:
- Educate yourself about addiction and the treatment process
- Understand the importance of setting boundaries and practicing self-care
- Prepare for changes in your relationship with your loved one as they go through recovery
- Know what to expect during the intake and admissions process, including necessary documentation and communication with the treatment team
- Explore local family support groups in your area, such as Al-Anon and Nar-Anon meetings
What to Expect During Treatment
As your loved one enters treatment and focuses on their recovery journey, it’s essential for you to shift your focus inward. This is your opportunity to begin your own healing journey, learn about your family’s dynamics, and prepare to support your loved one with clear boundaries upon their return home.
That’s why we offer family resources that range from articles and webinars on addiction to support groups and ways to get involved in the treatment process. While your loved one is in treatment, we encourage you to participate in:
- RCA’s Family Webinars & Support Groups
- RCA Family Support
- Family community seminars and meetings such as Al-Anon and ACA
In family meetings, you’ll learn about key topics like boundaries, family dynamics, and addiction treatment aftercare.
What to Expect After Treatment
Once your loved one completes their treatment program, our team will work with you and your family to develop an aftercare plan that supports long-term recovery. This may include suggestions for support groups or follow-up therapy sessions outside of RCA.
The support doesn’t end once your loved one leaves treatment. RCA’s Family Services are here for you throughout and beyond your loved one’s treatment journey. Whether you’re interested in support groups, educational webinars, or have questions, the Family Services team is here for you. Reach out to us via email at [email protected] to learn more about what RCA has to offer you and your family.
Our Alumni Association is the best way for your family member to stay connected to the RCA community and continue down a positive recovery path. The Alumni Association offers ongoing support, including access to alumni events and resources.
