Treatment for Eating Disorders
With specialized treatment delivered by a team of experienced therapists and industry experts, you can achieve recovery from an eating disorder.
An eating disorder is a treatable mental illness that can impact anyone of any age, race, gender, and ethnicity. According to the NEDA, at least 30 million people in the United States suffer from an eating disorder. While no one knows what truly causes eating disorders, researchers believe genetics, as well as biological, behavioral, psychological, and social factors can play a role. The sooner treatment is sought, the higher the likelihood of reaching recovery and living a happy, healthy life.
Recovery Centers of America at Devon has established itself as a leading provider of addiction treatment on the Main Line of Philadelphia since 2017. The outpatient programming at Devon has expanded beyond addiction treatment, and our licensed clinicians now provide treatment for clients diagnosed with eating disorders. Here, licensed clinicians understand the complexities of having an eating disorder and the impact it has on daily living. Our treatment team will work with you to gain insight and tools to manage these aspects of your life, both internal and external, to help establish a foundation for your recovery.
Eating Disorder Recovery
Our eating disorder programming is delivered by licensed therapists who use individual and group therapy to provide evidence-based interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to our clients. A registered dietitian and comprehensive medical team consisting of psychiatry and nursing provide specialized interventions to both support and monitor your recovery.
CBT helps you identify negative thinking that can lead to unhealthy behaviors. It isn’t always easy to dissect our own thoughts and weed out which thoughts are leading to negative feelings or harmful behavior. Being able to quickly identify a negative thought can ward off harmful behavior or feelings.
Because these negative thoughts and feelings can be difficult to eliminate, ACT focuses on accepting that these thoughts are going to happen and gives you the tools and power you need to work through them. In other words, instead of trying to tell yourself you won’t ever have a bad thought again, ACT walks you through how to rationally think through these thoughts.
Our treatment approach will help individuals work towards understanding and managing their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that reinforce their eating disorder.
A study by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) found up to 20% of those diagnosed with a serious eating disorder will die from complications. However, with treatment, that number drops down to 2-3%. We understand reaching out for help isn’t easy, but you aren’t alone in this battle. We can help with our comprehensive medical care, therapy, and nutrition counseling.
We also believe in the importance of support in all aspects of recovery, which is why we encourage you to bring a family member, friends, or other supporters to eat dinner together and participate in a multi-family group.
In addition to traditional therapies, RCA at Devon provides further support, such as assistance with grocery shopping and meal planning to help ease you into a new routine. We’ll also integrate holistic therapies, such as journaling, art therapy, meditation, and yoga therapy.
We realize that everyone’s needs, schedules, and obligations differ. Recovery Centers of America at Devon offers three programs: Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and General Outpatient. After an assessment, your team of clinicians will determine the appropriate level of treatment. From here, we’ll come up with a schedule that fits treatment into your day-to-day life.

Intensive Outpatient Program
9 hours per week (3 days, 3 hours per day)
