Professional and Collegiate Athlete Program
Athletes are taught to perform extraordinarily well under pressure – but even they aren’t immune from addiction.
Recovery Centers of America at Bracebridge Hall knows how difficult it is to admit when you need help, especially as a professional athlete. But addiction isn’t a matter of willpower, it isn’t a game you have to win – it’s a disease.
The mental and physical stress that comes along with being an athlete can push even the strongest of people to begin using drugs or drinking alcohol. This could be for a number of reasons, such as the intense pressure to perform well, injuries, physical pain, and retirement from a sport, says the US National Library of Medicine – National Institutes of Health.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the arts, entertainment, and recreation industry, which includes professional athletics, ranked second in past-month illicit drug use and third in past-year substance use disorder rates from 2008-2012.
Bracebridge’s Athlete Program offers specialized, personalized, and individualized services for male and female athletes for any sport, at any level, including:

Meet Your Trainer: Paul Norris
Bracebridge’s Personal Trainer Paul Norris has been competing at a national-level for body building for the last 5 years.
Bodybuilding is all about structure and routine – having a strict diet for 27 weeks, eating 8 times a day, and doing 45 minutes of cardio mixed in with a 30-minute workout,” Norris says. “This is all on top of living life and getting things done. I have to bring the mental dedication just as much as the physical dedication. I try to teach this to every single person who comes to the gym. We’re in this together, we’re getting better together.”
Paul’s background in body building and sports provided him with the knowledge, motivation, and experience to help our patients achieve their own personal goals, while fighting to beat their addiction one day at a time.
I’ve tried a little bit of everything – college football, baseball, and basketball, mixed martial arts, try-outs with the Phillies and the Mets, track, I learned more than just physical skills with these sports. The collaborative environment that comes along with sports helps me connect to people.”
– says Norris
