Continuing Education Event – Harm Reduction in a Clinical Setting – webinar – 12/9/2020

This training will provide an overview of how to utilize harm reduction approaches in a clinical setting. This training will review harm reduction approaches and useful conversations to use when working with clients who use substances from alcohol to fentanyl in all levels of care. The training also will provide a contemporary review of Harm Reduction options.


– Participants will be able to incorporate realistic expectations and educate clients on effective ways to stay as safe as possible in the event of a recurrence of use
– Participants will be able to identify useful harm reduction tools when discharge planning in all levels of care.
– Participants will be able to identify Harm Reduction techniques that are being advanced today.

Recovery Centers of America has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7002. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Recovery Centers of America is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. This course qualifies for 2 credit hours.

Nicole Bixler, LCSW, LCADC, has over eight years of experience in the substance use treatment field working with adolescents and adults. Nicole is a graduate of Stockton University’s Masters in Social Work Program and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Nicole has experience working with adolescents who are involved with gang activity as well as adults in a residential and detoxification setting.
Nicole has experience working in a pharmacotherapy setting as a therapist and Clinical Supervisor in a methadone program. Nicole has enhanced programs in a medication assisted recovery program including groups focused on patients who continue to struggle with polysubstance use as well as enhancing an educational program for pregnant patients on methadone maintenance . She has a deep understanding of the impact of stigma and discrimination towards people who use drugs, and Nicole strives to educate patients on their rights in the community as well as their rights when seeking treatment.

Nicole has extensive knowledge of the harm reduction approach as well as overdose prevention and reversal training. Nicole works directly with individuals experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, providing outreach including overdose prevention education and reversals, distribution of Naloxone and harm reduction supplies and advocating for treatment options through her personal non-profit organization.
