Dry January’s Over – How’d You Do?

Taking a month off from drinking has more benefits than you might think. According to a study from the University of Sussex, 800 people who participated in Dry January last year reported they:

  • Had a sense of achievement (93%)
  • Were able to save money (88%)
  • Thought more deeply about their relationship with alcohol (82%)

So could anyone benefit from a month off (or longer) from drinking? Most likely, says Dr. Deni Carise, Ph.D. and Chief Scientific Officer at Recovery Centers of America.

“People might say to me, ‘I think I might have a drinking problem, but I’m not sure.’ I say to them, ‘When was the last time you thought you had a problem with broccoli? You never think that because you don’t have a problem with broccoli,’” Dr. Carise told Healthline.
